# Create your AI receptionist

> A walkthrough of every question the Lawtte Studio builder asks — practice areas, her name, intake, voice, office hours, what she does with a new client, and her phone number.

Start at [lawtte.ai/studio](https://www.lawtte.ai/studio). The builder asks ten
questions in four short sections, and every screen ends with the same promise:
**you can change any of this later.** Nothing you answer here is permanent.

<Info>
  Your answers are saved as you go, so you can close the tab and come back. You only
  create an account partway through — and you can hear her before that.
</Info>

## Section 1 · Meet her

### 1. What does the firm do?

Pick **every** practice area you take, not just your main one. She learns a separate
intake for each: Family Law, Personal Injury, Lemon Law, Immigration, Criminal
Defense, or *Something else* with your own label (bankruptcy, estate planning,
employment — anything).

Why it matters: a Personal Injury caller and a Family Law caller get asked completely
different things. If you take both, she works out which one the call is about first,
then runs the right list.

### 2. What do you say when you pick up the phone?

* **Firm name** — exactly as she should say it out loud. "Reyes and Cole" beats
  "Reyes & Cole, LLP, A Professional Corporation."
* **Your website** (optional) — she reads it to learn the firm, and re-reads it
  whenever you change it. Worth adding: it's the cheapest way to make her sound
  informed about you.

### 3. Give her a name.

It's the first thing every caller hears. Pick something your clients will find easy
to say and remember.

<Tip>
  **This is where you can call her.** Once she has a name, a card appears with a
  **Call** button. She'll take a live call from you right there — free, no account
  needed. Try a real client situation and see what she does with it.
</Tip>

## Section 2 · Your account

### 4. Create your account *(only if you're not signed in)*

Email, a password of at least 8 characters, and **your** phone number — yours, not
hers. The phone number is only used to help you get set up.

You can sign in with Google or Microsoft instead if you'd rather not manage another
password.

<Note>
  Nothing to pay yet. Check your inbox for the verification link — you'll need a
  verified email before she can get a phone number and go live.
</Note>

## Section 3 · Train her

### 5. What she finds out from a new client

This is the heart of it. Lawtte pre-fills a real intake list for each practice area
you picked — the questions a good receptionist at that kind of firm actually asks,
in the order they'd ask them.

For each question you can check it on or off, rewrite what she learns, reorder it,
change how firmly she asks, or add your own. Name and callback number are locked
because every intake needs them.

There's a lot of control here, so it has its own page:
**[her intake questions](/studio/intake-questions)**.

### 6. How we set her up

Three things, all pre-filled with a sensible default:

* **Voice** — we preselect a recommended voice for your practice area. Preview any
  of them; you can change voice and accent any time in her settings.
* **Languages** — English plus Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch,
  Polish, Hindi, Japanese and more. She answers in your first language and switches
  if the caller does.
* **Office hours and time zone** — one-click presets (Mon–Fri 9am–5pm, Mon–Fri
  8:30am–6pm, Mon–Sat 9am–6pm, Open 24/7) or set each day yourself.

<Warning>
  Office hours do **not** limit when she answers — she answers every call, day or
  night. They tell her when there's a human to hand off to. See
  [after-hours](/studio/after-hours).
</Warning>

### 7. She's got the new client's info. Then what?

Pick one outcome. This is the single most important answer in the builder.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Send it to the team" icon="envelope">
    Everything she learned, emailed the moment the call ends. You give her one team
    email (for example `intake@yourfirm.com`).

    Best for firms who call leads back themselves and just want the details fast.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Book the consultation" icon="calendar-check">
    She checks your real calendar, offers open times, and books it while they're on
    the phone. Connect **Google Calendar**, **Outlook / Microsoft 365**, or
    **Calendly** — see [calendar booking](/studio/calendar).

    No calendar access? Switch to link mode and she emails your scheduling link after
    the call instead.

    Best for firms whose consultation is the conversion step.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Connect them to a person" icon="phone">
    She screens the caller first — finishes the intake, confirms it's a genuine new
    client rather than a current client, a vendor, or a solicitor — then introduces
    them to your team and connects the call.

    You give her a number for office hours, and choose what happens outside them:
    take a message, or transfer to an on-call line. If nobody picks up, she takes a
    message.

    Best for firms who want to talk to good leads immediately.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

### 8. A current client calls about their case

She never discusses case details — she confirms who they are and what it's about,
then passes it on. Tell her which inbox those messages go to. Leave it as-is to use
the same address as your new-client intake.

## Section 4 · The hard calls

### 9. Three calls every receptionist gets

We've picked the safe answer for each. Change what doesn't fit your firm.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Someone asks what you charge">
    * **Don't discuss fees** *(default)* — she never quotes a number; the team covers it.
    * **Free consultation** — she says it's free and leaves the rest to the team.
    * **Contingency, no fee unless we win** — she reassures them there's nothing up front.
    * **Paid consultation** — she says your amount once and moves on.
    * **Custom** — your exact words, said once.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Something urgent — a court date tomorrow, someone in custody">
    * **Take the message and flag it urgent** *(default)*
    * **Transfer to this number** — an attorney's cell or an on-call line.
    * **Treat it like any call**
  </Step>

  <Step title="A call that isn't a legal matter">
    A salesperson, a vendor, a robocall working its way down a list:

    * **Send them away** — she ends the call, no message.
    * **Point them to an email** — she gives the address and hangs up.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Section 5 · Go live

### 10. She needs her own line

Pick the **area code** your clients expect — we pre-guess it from your location.
Then claim the number:

* **On a Lawtté-managed plan?** Included. No card needed.
* **Self-serve?** Choose your plan and add a payment method. The builder shows you the
  terms before you confirm.

She provisions in seconds — you'll see *Learning your intake → Getting her number →
Going live* — and then you get her number, plus the codes to forward your office
line to her. See [her phone number](/studio/phone-number).

<Check>
  Call her number yourself before you forward anything. Ten minutes of your own
  testing is worth more than any setting on this page.
</Check>

## Changing anything later

Everything above lives in **Dashboard → Agent** after she's live: her name, voice,
languages, hours, intake questions, what she does with new clients, and what she can
tell callers. Edits take effect on the next call. See
[managing her](/studio/dashboard).
