# Her phone number

> Claim a local number for your AI receptionist and either forward your office line to it or publish it as your intake number — with the exact forwarding codes for each carrier.

She needs her own line before she can answer anything. It takes about ten seconds.

## Claim her number

<Steps>
  <Step title="Verify your email">
    Click the link Lawtte emailed you when you signed up. Buying a number and going
    live are both gated on a verified email.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick an area code">
    Three digits — the one your clients expect to see. We pre-guess it from your
    location. Local numbers get answered more often than toll-free ones.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Claim it">
    On a Lawtté-managed plan it's included, no card. Self-serve, you choose your plan
    and add a payment method first; the builder shows the terms before you confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Her number appears in **Dashboard → Agent**, with a copy button.

<Check>
  Call it yourself first, with a real client situation, before you route anything to
  it. This is the single best ten minutes you'll spend on setup.
</Check>

## Two ways to go live

  <Card title="Forward your office line" icon="phone">
    Keep publishing your existing number. Send calls to her when nobody picks up, or
    after hours. Nothing on your website or business cards changes.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Publish her number directly" icon="bullhorn">
    Use her line as your intake number on your website, ads, and Google Business
    Profile. Every new caller reaches her first.

Most firms start with forwarding and move to publishing once they trust her.

## Forwarding codes

Replace `5551234567` with her 10-digit number.

| RingCentral, 8x8, Ooma, Vonage | Set her number as the **no-answer** or **after-hours** forward in your admin portal | Remove it there |

<Tip>
  Ask your phone provider for **conditional call forwarding** — forward only when the
  line is busy or nobody answers, usually after 4 rings. Your team keeps first crack
  at every call, and she catches everything they miss. That's the setup most firms end
  up on.
</Tip>

## Only after hours?

You don't need a forwarding rule for that — it's a phone-system setting on your side.
Point your after-hours forward at her number and your team keeps daytime calls. What
she *does* on those calls is controlled in Lawtte: see
[after-hours coverage](/studio/after-hours).

## Releasing a number

**Dashboard → Settings** → release. Callers to that number will hear a disconnected
tone afterwards, and the number can't be reclaimed once it's released. If you're
mid-campaign with the number printed somewhere, don't.
