How long does it take to set up an AI receptionist?

About ten minutes. The builder asks ten questions, pre-fills sensible answers for each, and every one of them can be changed later. Her phone number provisions in seconds at the end.

Do I need a developer, or a new phone system?

No. You keep your existing phone service. She gets her own local number, and you either forward your office line to it or publish it as your intake number. No code, no IT project.

Can I hear her before I pay?

Yes. Three questions into the builder, once she has a name, a Call button appears and she’ll take a live call from you — no account, no card. Test calls from your dashboard also don’t use your plan minutes.

Do callers know they’re talking to an AI?

Yes. She identifies herself as an automated assistant, and the website widget says so before a visitor clicks. This isn’t optional — it’s what keeps the whole thing defensible if a client ever asks who they spoke to. No, and it isn’t a setting you can turn off. She won’t advise, predict an outcome, quote a fee you didn’t give her, discuss an existing client’s case details, or say anything implying an attorney–client relationship. She gathers facts and hands them to your team.

What happens if she doesn’t understand a caller?

She asks them to say it again, in their words, rather than guessing. If a caller is distressed or the matter is urgent, she stops asking questions and routes the call — to your transfer number if you set one, otherwise into an urgent-flagged message. On a genuine emergency she tells them to call 911.

Can she speak Spanish?

Yes — Spanish plus French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Hindi, Japanese and more. She opens in your first language and switches when the caller does.

Will she book into my real calendar, or just take a message?

Your choice. Connect Google Calendar, Outlook / Microsoft 365, or Calendly and she reads your real free/busy data, offers times that are genuinely open, and books while the caller is on the phone. If you’d rather not give calendar access, she emails your scheduling link instead. See calendar booking.

Can she transfer a caller to me?

Yes. She finishes the intake, confirms it’s a genuine new client rather than a current client or a salesperson, introduces them to your team, and connects the call. If nobody picks up she takes a message. Outside office hours you choose: message, or transfer to an on-call number.

What does she do at 2am?

Answers, takes the full intake, and sends it — so your team starts the day with a worked-up case instead of a voicemail. If the caller is urgent (detained, hearing tomorrow, a safety issue) she acts on it immediately per your setting, including calling an on-call number if that’s what you chose. See after-hours.

How does she know what to ask for my practice area?

Lawtte ships a real intake list per practice area — Family, Personal Injury, Lemon Law, Immigration, Criminal Defense, or your own. You edit that list rather than writing one: switch questions off, reorder them, reword what she learns, add up to 30 of your own per area. See her intake questions.

Can I stop her calling a specific number?

Yes. Dashboard → Settings → Do Not Call. If a caller asks not to be contacted again, it’s recorded there and nothing in Lawtte dials it.

Are calls recorded, and who can see them?

Calls are recorded and transcribed so you get summaries and intake data, and the recording is disclosed to the caller. Transcripts appear in your dashboard for your firm only. Your website widget’s pages carry no product analytics or session replay from us, and no identifier is stored for those visitors.

Can I have more than one receptionist?

Yes — several AI employees, each with her own number and her own intake, which is how firms give each office or practice area its own line. Tell us what you need at contact@lawtte.ai.

Can I change her after she’s live?

All of it, any time, from Dashboard → Agent: her name, voice, languages, hours, intake questions, what she does with new clients, what she can tell callers. Changes apply to her next call. Nothing requires our involvement.

What if something goes wrong on a real call?

Read the transcript in Dashboard → History, fix the setting it points to, and call her to confirm. If it’s something we need to look at, open a ticket at lawtte.ai/studio/support with her number and roughly when the call happened.
